TIP #2 for T-fal’s Healthy Summer Challenge: Make Exercise Fun

If you follow my personal blog, you will know that I have now officially lost 50 pounds since January. One of the ways I am losing the weight is to exercise which should be on everyones menu if you are trying to get healthy this summer.  Trust me when I say this, exercising can be fun.  I didn’t believe it myself until I found some things that really have worked for me.

Now, why would you do something you hate?  You aren’t going to stick with it.  So — if you hate running, don’t make it part of your exercise program.  For me, it wasn’t that I hate running, it was that I was bored with it.  My fix?  I downloaded an app for my iphone called Zombies, Run!  The story is that hundreds of lives are counting on you. You’ve got to help your base rebuild from the ruins of civilization by collecting critical supplies while avoiding roving zombie hordes. Can you save them and learn the truth about the zombie apocalypse?  Yes, I like Zombies.  The best part of this app is that I can use it outside (which is way fun) or even on my treadmill.  If you do it outside, you’ll be running and all of sudden across your earbuds, you’ll hear that a hoard of zombies are chasing you.  You have to pick up speed.  Honestly, it is super fun and I often catch myself giggling.  There are missions you take, and it just has made running fun for me.  It also makes me want to get off my couch potato butt and do it.  Now, zombies and running may not be the fit for you.  However, there are so many phone apps out there that you can and you will find one that works for you.

Another thing you can do is find something that doesn’t feel like exercise (which makes it fun!).  Another way I’ve lost the weight I have is through Zumba.  I Zumba once a week.  Yes, it is hard.  However, I have an awesome instructor, and I really enjoy it even though I can’t figure out some of the moves.  It also burns off a ton of calories, and it burns off a ton of calories.  Back in the day, I use to dance in a club for fun on Friday and Saturday nights.  Little did I know it was keeping me fit at the time!

TIP #1 for T-fal’s Healthy Summer Challenge: Change Your Thinking

If you are trying to be healthy this summer, there are many things you need to do. If you follow my personal blog, you will know that I have lost over 46 lbs in the last 21 weeks, so I personally have made many life changes to do so!

What do I mean by change your thinking? Well, as I have personally learned, you have to change how you view not only food, but how you think about life in general. Eating healthy and weight loss is a marathon. It is not a sprint. It is not something you quickly get over and go back to normal. It is more of the matra: slow and steady win the race. People who truly make changes are going to keep the weight off. People who go for quick fixes will gain the weight back.

The other part of changing your thinking is that you have to look at weight loss each week. One pound less is still one pound less. If you didn’t lose weight last week, celebrate that you didn’t gain any weight back. I just got back from vacation, and I lost 2.6 lbs in the last 2 weeks while on vacation. I would have loved to have lost 4 lbs in the last two weeks. However, I am celebrating that I was able to lose weight on vacation since I wasn’t able to watch what I ate as closely as I normally do. We ended up having to eat out a lot, and I had to make smart choices. You have to change that thinking that if you don’t lose 1-2 lbs a week that you are a failure. You are not a failure! Instead, any weight loss is a success!!! We often tell our children to try their best and that is what counts. We often forget that ourselves.

As far as exercise, it isn’t all or nothing that even I bought into. I had to change my thinking that taking the dog on a walk was exercise that wouldn’t kill me or give me a heart attack. Exercise is not boring. You just have to find something you like, and there are so many things out there that can get your butt off the couch that you enjoy. My husband loves to swim, and for him, that’s not even exercise. For me, I actually like to Zumba. It burns about 1000 calories a class, and it isn’t boring. Even though I am not all that coordinated, I can do it. If I can, anyone can!

Most of all, if you want to have healthier summer, you need to change your thinking. Be positive and believe you can do it!
