Melt

I am always looking for ways to eat better for both my family and myself.  That is why I was willing to check out Melt.  Melt is made of virgin coconut oil, flax seed oil, palm fruit oil and canola oil and supports digestive wellness, optimal nutrition absorption and healthy weight. It’s sold in stores such as Whole Foods, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Albertsons and Sprouts. Melt’s organic, soy-free, gluten-free, cholesterol-free and certified Kosher.

Melt supports healthy weight when replacing other fats in your daily diet and the healthy goodness cooks, tops and bakes just like butter (with absolutely no hydrogenated oils).  I personally found that it tasted just like butter to me.  However, we took this camping (melt was perfect for camping) and was told that yes you can taste the coconut oil, but that it was even better than butter.  We’ve used this in as many ways as possible — I’ve added it to toast and bagels, I’ve used it for baking, and we used it camping to make eggs.  It passed all of our tests.  This is a product that we will be using for the foreseeable future!

Since you are taking the time to read about this great new product on my blog, I wanted to tell you about a great contest they are having right now.  You can win a $500 VISA gift card for a Mingle With Melt dinner party for 10 friends–a chic, healthy night in with friends and family! Whichever blog the winning reader comes from, that blogger wins too!  Sooo if you go here and enter, please make sure that you let them know that Lisa Cooking sent you!

If you are in need for healthy cooking oils or healthy gluten free butter or just a substitute for butter, definitely try out Melt!

A Recipe For A Back To School Mornings

With school right upon on, it’s time to start getting the kids up early and to eat a healthy breakfast. However, when you open your pantry (or cupboard or wherever you keep your cereal), are you seeing healthy in there? Are you seeing cereals and breakfast foods loaded in sugar? (Don’t worry — I’ve got some of that in my house too). However, Nature’s Path has some great ways to start your morning off right.
First, you could start off your morning with Sunrise Cereal. This cereal is made with corn, rice, flax, quinoa, buckwheat, and amaranth. If you can believe it, this cereal is actually sweet! It also has NO gluten. I love that this cereal is both great tasting and good for me too.

Another cereal of theirs to check out is the Flax Plus Red Berry Crunch. It takes Flax Plus flakes and granola and adds in organic freeze dried strawberries and raspberries. This is a cereal that is loaded with Omega-3s, antioxidants, dietary fiber, and taste!

If cereal isn’t your thing first thing in the morning (it’s not mine), you have to try their granola bar offerings. They have a few new flavors as well as the old ones that will satisfy any craving you have. These are certified organic which means they don’t contain artificial preservatives, additives, genetically modified organisms or synthetic pesticides. My favorite flavors are the Peanut Buddy and Peanut Choco.

Lastly, they have rice bars too. They are made with whole brown rice and are low in fat and low in sodium.  This too is organic and this mom has been known to hide these from her kids so she can eat them herself (just don’t tell anybody!).  They have five gluten free flavors too:  peanut butter, milk chocolate, berry, peanut choco drizzle, and fruity burst.  Best of all, 1% of all sales goes towards the EnviroFund that is donated annually to non-profit wildlife organizations around the world.

Nature’s Path has a great product line to help make your back to school transition easier.  They have great products that you can eat for breakfast or any time of the day that are good for you and have great taste.  Go try them out!

Nature’s Path Cereals

Did you know that a study in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition unveiled that men and women who eat at least one serving of whole grains each day weigh less and have slimmer waistlines?  In this day and age, I know that this is something we all strive for.  Nature’s Path cereals definitely fit this bill since they are loaded with whole grains, as well as fiber.  Their cereals include:

  • Nature’s Path Optimum Slim – 18g whole grains, 9g fiber
  • FlaxPlus Pumpkin Raisin Crunch – 19g whole grains, 9g fiber
  • FlaxPlus Red Berry Crunch – 22g whole grains, 5g fiber
  • Pumpkin FlaxPlus Granola – 31g whole grains, 5g fiber
  • Sunflower AgavePlus Granola – 33g whole grains, 4g fiber

All Nature’s Path products are certified organic, which means they contain nothing artificial and no chemical pesticides or herbicides are used.  I’ll be honest, my kids like the sugary cereals (who doesn’t?), but my kids eat this cereal too without me having to make them.  They often ask for the FlaxPlus Red Berry Crunch (which happens to be an excellent source of Omega-3).  It is made with organic flax seeds, strawberries, raspberries, and oats.  The FlaxPlus Granola is great for any of the granola lovers out there.  It has a little kick to it but is definitely good.  The Nature’s Path Optimum Slim cereal happens to be my favorite.  What surprised me most about it was that it is sweet.  They sweetened this cereal with molasses which for me makes it extra yummy.

If you are looking for a great alternative to the sugary cereals you find in your local grocery store, I highly recommend checking out the Nature’s Path products.  There is definitely something here for everyone.
