Ziploc Giveaway!

As many of you may know, I am in the process of losing weight.  (I’ve lost 25 lbs in 9 weeks!  Go me!)  That is why I was super excited to tell you how Ziploc makes eating fresh convenient.  They also help you  get more out of your meals by extending the freshness of food ingredients and leftovers. Available in an assortment of sizes, shapes and seals, Ziploc offer families a variety of smart, quality food storage solutions.

Ziploc Perfect Portions Bags are their latest innovation.  They are perfect for storing and freezing bulk foods and individual portions of poultry, meat, cookie dough and more.  I love them because I can portion out just what I need to eat.  You simply put your hand in the bag and pick up your serving size.  You then turn the bag inside out to easily create portions.  You can then put the individual bags into a Ziploc freezer bag to freeze until you need to use them.

The launch of Ziploc Perfect Portions is just one party of their initiation of the the Great American FreshOver Project.  This is a two year healthy eating initiative encouraging families to “freshover” their outlook on eating.  Ziploc and Rachael Ray are offering families recipes, tips, ways to use Ziploc products, and even a chance to win a trip for two to meet Rachel Ray.  (I’ve met Rachel Ray.  She’s really nice.)

Since I am such a fan of Ziploc, I have arranged for one of my lucky readers to win a Ziploc Prize Pack.  In it, you will find:

  • New Ziploc® Perfect Portions™ Bags
  • Ziploc® Freezer Bags
  • Rachael Ray Recipes
  • 1-2 other Ziploc® products (random selection)

Eating Healthy With #BensBeginners!

As a busy work at home mom, I know the struggles about finding quality time together. Even harder is feeding our children a healthy meal that they will actually eat.

Did you know that studies show that when you begin preparing your meal with rice, you end up with a meal that’s better for you? I personally love Uncle Ben’s Whole Grain rice, because it tastes awesome. My kids don’t know the difference between the whole grain and the white rice, and they are eating better and not even knowing it. That is why I wanted to tell you about Uncle Ben’s newest contest.

Uncle Ben’s has launched an exciting national contest called Ben’s Beginners! By entering the contest, you could win $20,000, along with a $50,000 grant towards a cafeteria makeover for your child’s school. In addition, you will have a chance to appear on The Rachael Ray show! Uncle Ben’s is calling for parents with children ages 5-12 to submit a 2-3 minute video of you cooking a rice-based dish with your children. For more info on the contest, please check out Ben’s Beginners on Facebook!

Here are a few of my tips for getting your kids to eat healthier:

1. Give you kids choices. My kids are way more inclined to eat something when they get to choose it. However, I make sure that their two choices are both healthy things! 🙂

2. Have your kids help cook dinner. I also have found that if my daughter gets to help cook dinner, she also will eat it.

3. Find out what your children’s school is teaching about nutrition. For Will, my 4 year old, they learned about healthy eating. For us, it made a natural segway into eating healthier at home. He is all about eating healthy and good things and even exercising now. As much as I drill that into his head, it always sounds better if they hear it from someone else like their teachers and friends!

4. Have your kids come grocery shopping with you. My 4 year old loves to pick out fruits for us to buy. The deal always is that if I buy it, you have to eat it. This seems to work well with my little one.

5. Make sure healthy snack are within reach. I always have a fruit bowl it. I make it super easy for the kids to grab a snack

There are so many ways to eat healthier in your home. How are you having your kids eat healthier?

I wrote this blog post while participating in the SocialMoms and Uncle Ben’s blogging program, for 6,000 My SocialMoms Rewards Points. For more information on how you can participate, click here.

Rachael Ray’s Nutrish

This post brought to you by Nutrish. All opinions are 100% mine.

Now, I normally talk about people food on here. However, we recently tried out an excellent dog food (let me rephrase that, our dog Daisy tried out an excellent dog food!) that I want to tell you about.

Our vet currently is all about dog food that doesn't have a bunch of additives and stuff that our dog doesn't need. He actually has a list of foods on his preferred list that he gives you when you come in for your first visit. For me (who never had a dog before), it was extremely helpful. I am thinking that Rachael Ray Nutrish just 6 dry dog food will also make his list. Nutrish is a limited ingredient dog food with only six simple, natural ingredients, plus vitamins and minerals for complete and balanced nutrition. It does not include corn, wheat, or soy. Even better though, did you know that proceeds from Rachael Ray’s Nutrish product go toward helping animals in need through her Rachael’s Rescue organization?

Daisy seemed to like the food. I actually caught her trying to open it before we gave it to her. (<– see picture). 🙂 The best part of Nutrish is that you too can get a free sample, so you can try it for free and make sure your dog enjoys it too.
